A Successful Spetses Carnival on Sunday 6 March 2011

By all accounts, everyone was very happy with the success of the Spetses carnival on Sunday 6 March this year. A combination of the help and support from a new Spetses island mayor and committee plus a lot of hard work from various groups of locals. The weather improved and even though it was cold, there were bright blue skies and no rain in sight.
The parade was lead by horses carrying three muskateers and some of the floats following behind included: an Acropolis, with goddesses on board; an effigy of Angela Merkel, who was burned on the town beach at the end of the night and a giant float, with re-cycling costumes made from different bits of rubbish. We are the ChampionsWe are the Champions

Of course there were many, many other people, including hundreds of  children, who had turned out individually or with friends or their respective schools in all kinds of home made costumes.
After the parade there was live music in the clock tower square and plenty of food and free flowing wine.
