Past Annual Events in Spetses - Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter
Here you will find specific events that have taken place on the island from year to year. These will include mainly regular annual events, such as name day celebrations, Epiphany, carnival 'apokries' coverage, Independence day, Oxi day and Armata. Other events will be found in News, Articles and Editorial, The Arts and in Community Close Up.
2007 Epiphany 6 January
This year, Epiphany started out as a cold and very grey day, and our thoughts were with the swimmers that were to take to the cold and grey waters later on in the morning. Firstly though, the traditional early morning service of psalms at Ayios Nikolaos was performed, followed by the procession to the Pigathi tou Stavrou, where the waters were blessed and the dove was successfully released.
2008 - Another year, another Epiphany 6 January
Epiphany 2008 - and another very cold and grey day, as locals turned out to watch yet another 'dive for the cross'. The early morning service of psalms at Ayios Nikoloas was followed by the procession to the Pigathi Tou Stavrou for the blessing of the wells and the release of the white dove in to the skies above.
2009 Armata
Armata 2009 kicks off this year on the 30th August with a performance of The Barber of Seville at the Anargyros Amphitheatre known as the 'College Theatre'. There will be all kinds of entertainment throughout the two weeks of Armata, culminating with the traditional yearly Armata display on Saturday 12th September and the throwing of the wreath on Sunday 13th.
