FASE / SPETSES - GAWF To Spetses again. This time for cats and dogs

FASE SPETSES have invited once again GAWF - Greek Animal Welfare Fund to Spetses. On Friday 13/14/15 June, 2008, GAWF will be conducting a neutering programme for stray cats and dogs. We are most happy to have GAWF on the island and we hope people can help our project a little by making a donation to our Society - FASE / SPETSES to help defer our medical expenses. Thank you. For informaton please call 6944 99 77 45 UNWANTED KITTENS: Every Spring/Summer Spetses has a major problem with kittens being thrown alive in plastic bags into rubbish bins. FASE/SPETSES is doing its UTMOST to reduce the numbers of abandoned kittens by implementing Spaying and Neutering programmes. As you may know for the past three years FASE/SPETSES has managed, with the help of its volunteer members & friends, to conduct three sessions a year giving usually an approximate total of 200 cats per year. These cats are nearly all caught with traps from rubbish bins or garden cat colonies. All cats have the top of their left ear clipped after surgery to distinguish them and therefore hopefully, not operated on again. The volunteer, non Greek vets are not allowed to operate on a cat without clipping its ears. All cats must be strays. Apart from abandoned kittens that FASE has homed with the promise of being neutered at the first available session. These rescued cats taking the advantage of the volunteer programme must have their ears clipped too and a donation paid. As you know ALL THE ANIMAL WELFARE SOCIETIES using the International vets in Greece must make a donation to cover medication and vets costs. This donation is made thru the Bank and receipted. Although the vets are donating their time the local society must provide accommodation, which often is donated if FASE is lucky enough, vets travel cost, food and drinks when necessary. FASE/SPETSES also have to buy cages, traps, equipment, cleaning material, basic medical supplies, cat transport and running cost.
