'Flame of Hope' Torch - Final Leg Comes to Spetses on 23 June 2011
'Flame of Hope' torch arrived in Spetses on Thursday 23 June, for its final leg carried for the Special Olympics World Summer Games ATHENS 2011, taking place on June 25th-July 4th. The Mayor and local Spetses council were there to receive it, being carried off the catamaran from Athens by two Olympian athletes. It was escorted by police to Ayios Mamas, where the runners then ran the back route to the Poseidonion Hotel. Everyone honked their horns and cheered as the flame was put on to a special column and then the athletes held it high, as it burned for all to see.
This is not the first time the flame has been brought to Spetses. The last time it arrived was before the Athens Olympics.
