6 January 2008 - Another year, another Epiphany

Epiphany 2008 - and another very cold and grey day, as locals turned out to watch yet another 'dive for the cross'. The early morning service of psalms at Ayios Nikoloas was followed by the procession to the Pigathi Tou Stavrou for the blessing of the wells and the release of the white dove in to the skies above.

An EasyCruise to Spetses

The first EasyCruise very quietly pulled in to Spetses last Wednesday afternoon on the 30th May. Quietly, because they couldn't actually pull up to the Possidonian jetty due to renovations on the quay.

Ayios Yiorgios at Zogheria

It was wonderful weather for the celebration of Ayios Yiorgios at the lovely church of Zogheria. People were pic-nicing around the bay, but the main party was outside the church.

Babylonia 01 August 2007

Last night at the Anargyrios College amphitheatre up in the hills, the Greek comedy - Babylonia -  was played to a packed audience. It was a pleasure to see the amphitheatre so full, and with so many locals.

Caretta Caretta

Whilst diving at Kouzounos last Saturday (24-Nov-04) Spetses’ resident, Lakis Adamis was extremely surprised to come face to face with a giant sea turtle - the Loggerhead, also referred to as the Caretta caretta. The turtle was keeping very close to the shore, and seemed to be in distress, so Mr Adamis decided to call the local port police to see if they could help.

Eclipse of the Moon

There was a total eclipse of the moon on Saturday 03 March 2007 at about midnight, Greek time. The Spetses sky was clear and the view was incredible. Unfortunately, the pollution in other countries made viewing far less of an interesting occasion.

Epiphany 6 January 2007

This year, Epiphany started out as a cold and very grey day, and our thoughts were with the swimmers that were to take to the cold and grey waters later on in the morning. Firstly though, the traditional early morning service of psalms at Ayios Nikolaos was performed, followed by the procession to the Pigathi tou Stavrou, where the waters were blessed and the dove was successfully released.

New Football Pitch

The first football match on the newly re-furbished football ground took place on Sunday, January 28th 2007. The ground, with its new astro turf, looked wonderful in the sunshine - not many football pitches could boast such a lovely setting!
