Activities in Spetses include walking, hiking, biking, running, horse trekking, beaching, boating...we have it all!
There are plenty of trails in the hills to walk or hike. Tracks lead up to the top of the island, across the other side and zigzag down to many of the beaches, east and west. Pefect hiking weather is from October through to May. If in the height of summer, best to head off eary in the morning to avoid the intense heat. Make a plan for your return journey, whether it be by boat or on foot, later in the evening. Always take plenty of water, as only the main beaches will sell refreshments. There are plenty of alternative, gentler walks, all the way along the seafront from Kounoupitsa to the west all the way to Palio Limani (the old harbour) to the east. Horse buggies or taxi's may be available to take you home, if required.
Biking is popular on the island and bikes can be rented from various shops. The road around the island has many steep inclines and it has, for the past few years, had a proper road surface. It should take around 2 hours to go straight round for those who are used to biking. For intense cycling, you can make your own personal time! Alternatively, bike around at your leisure and stop at various beaches along the way. Be very aware that there are motorbikes and trucks that may appear in front of you on tight corners, so take care.
