Spetses memories - and hoping to return

I tried to post this earlier and it's disappeared, so I apologise if it looks like I'm repeating myself.

My first ever holiday abroad was to Spetses in 1978 and I returned for 4 consecutive years. The island made a huge impression on me and I've never forgotten it and I treasure my photos of those years. And now finally I'm hoping to return to celebrate a significant birthday, with my husband who has never been to the island but who has heard me talking about it. I'm so excited but also nervous as I'm sure there will have been many changes. I'm so pleased to have found this website as it will bring me up-to-date with island life.

John from Airlink

John! Hi! Don't suppose you remember me, but I remember you and Pam in the glory days of Laskarina/ Airlink etc. I came to Spetses regularly from 1980 onwards with Airlink to see my Greek boyfriend and friends on the island. I came to Skiathos with my [British] fiance after that when you had the restaurant in the converted windmill and we had a meal there. Good to hear you are ok. We have been married ever since just after Skiathos and live in Surrey. We have a 14 year old daughter, Sofia and still travel to Greece as much as we can afford, Kefalonia, Zakynthos, last summer in Pefkos in Rhodes. Pelion looks beautiful. Have a vivid memory of oversleeping on departure morning in Spetses and you having to pick me up from Bouzoubardi Studio[with its antiquated bathroom] on your moped.

Hi John I too am returning to Spetses after a long absence. I worked with my ex, Pam, on Spetses 1985/6/7 and then moved to Skiathos where we repped for Laskarina and then had a restaurant. I'm now living in Holland witha new (Grecophile) partner and we are trying to buy a place on Pelion where we worked for a couple of years. You're not "japanese" John are you? We're going on 8th Sept for a week to see the Boubalina festivities. Looking forward to hearing from you or anyonr else who remembers me  John dance

Hi John,  I am sorry but I didn't get to check this site again before we left on our trip.  We were on Spetses on the 13th - 20th September.  We should have met up.  We had a great time there.  We found Andonis Badakas, Takis, Nauti George, young Agis (who is now not so young), Kosta and Monica from Il Padrino - it was great to see all thse old faces.  The island has had a lot of money into it but is still great. My son and I rode around the island a few times, went to Lampara (now Kaiqi Beach), most of the beaches and we said hello to Tims old Landlord.  So many memories!  I hope you enjoyed being back.  Cheers  John

Returning in September

Hi there!, this is John Previtera and worked on Spetses in 1982 and 1983 for Laskarina Travel.  I met my wife, Nicky Carnegie there and we still happily married and living in Sydney Australia.  Nicky's Dad is Tim Carnegie, all of of you around at that time will remember him I'm sure - generous man and a big fan of the Soliel Bar and the Kahlia.  He had long hair and a beard and rode around a racing bike.  I have great memories of  Takis, Tssoula, Bobos, Captain George and Buggy Yannis.  I too had some of the best times of my life on Spetses.  Anyway we are coming back to Spetses in September 2011 and can't wait.  It has been a long time and I can't expect things to be the same but it will great fun to wander around with my kids!  I hope I can still break a few plates.  John,

I have only just realised who you are, when I received an email today from someone asking to reply to this post.

I knew Tim Carnegie very well and am still vaguely in touch with Jenny in Cornwall. They were good years!! Kaliopi, one of his landlady's remembers him fondly too. I won't be here in September, so I shall wish you a wonderful time now!

Please find below the email I received today:

Hi John. I tried to reply a couple of days ago but don't know if you saw it. My ex (Pam) and I worked on Spetses 1985/6/7 out of Takis office after holidaying with Laskarina in 1984. I'm coming back with my new Dutch partner 8-15 Sept, staying with Susan at Mexis. When are you coming? Did Nicky rep for Lakarina on Skopelos?  Hope to catch up with you  Regards John Dance

Hoping to go in August but not sure what to expect.   We met some wonderful Greek people one in particular Lucas and his friend Tacis who ran the water taxi's......I know Lucas passed away a few years ago but what lovely people they even took us into their homes to meet their families......Does anybody know them?

Someday I hope to make it to Spetses

Hi there! My name is Sherri Dodgson and my great-grandfather came to the US from Spetses. My mother's last name is Patrenos and her grandfather was Dimitris Patrenos (immigrated in 1907?), and the  son of Pondalee Patrinos. My mother visited Spetses in 1992 and I can't wait to visit there some day. it looks absolutely beautiful. If anyone has any info to share with me, it would be greatly appreciated.
