Takis Delimitros - Personality on Spetses Island Greece

What is your occupation? Retired captain of the caique boat, ‘Ouranos’ (which in English means ‘sky’). I used to ferry tourists backwards and forwards from Spetses to Kosta (mainland) each day. Also to take them to the numerous Greek nights and beach parties, of which I enjoyed as much as the clients!

Whereabouts do you live on Spetses? Near the church of Ayios Yiannis at Kounoupitsa.

Why are you living on Spetses? Born in Spetses and I will die in Spetses…

Where are you to be found most of the time? Usually in town somewhere, at one of the local caféneons or tavernas, enjoying a drink and a chat.

Choose cat or dog:  Cat, or as we say in Greek - ‘gatoulas’ which means ‘little cats’. I have nine of them!

Which Spetses beach do you prefer? Anargyri. The biggest beach on Spetses.

What's your favourite view of Spetses? The road to Ligoneri beach with its roof of green pines.

Which football team do you support?
Olympiakos, of which I am a member.

Which time of year or season best suits you on Spetses - why? August - when the island is full of tourists including my old English friends who visit every year. Also, when all the best fruit is in season and the tastiest fish and of course all the lovely women!

Do you have any hobbies/pastimes? A little bit of fishing, but mainly sitting in café’s reading newspapers and talking to friends. Listening to world news on T.V.

What's your favourite traditional Greek dish? Roast lamb in the oven with potatoes.

Who would you choose to headline the next Armata celebrations ? The old and popular singer, Mitropanos.

Where would you take a friend on a one day visit to Spetses? Round the island and stop at the beaches of Xilokeriza, Ayia Anargyri, Ayia Paraskevi, Zogheria and Ligoneri. Then finish off in the Dapia with a drink.

What, in your view, is the best part about life on Spetses? The clean air and clear seas and simple way of living - quietly with good food. Spetses is to me and to everyone I know, the ‘diamond of the Saronic island.
