Travel Hints & Tips for Spetses Island Greece

No Airport on Spetses Island Greece

It is not possible to fly direct to Spetses because there isn't an airport - just a helicopter pad, situated beyond Ayia Marina. The closest airport to the island is Athens International Airport which is about one and a half hours travelling time from Piraeus. To find out about the facilities of AIA  click here.

Luxury or Emergency Helicopters

Occasionally emergency helicopters land on Spetses, and you can hire a helicopter to bring you to the island from AIA. However the operator will have to obtain specific permission from the local authorities on the island to land. If you want to get to Spetses in the shortest amount of time possible (about 20 mins flying time) you can book a helicopter (depends on time of day as to whether you can land on Spetses or have to put in at Porto Heli on the mainland and then get a water taxi across to the island), but you need to add a couple of thousand Euros to your holiday costs.

Many of the wealthy residents of summer houses on the island arrive by helicopter during the summer months.
