Travelling to other islands from Spetses

I'm visiting Spetses in mid September 2008 and want to know if there is regular transport to the mainland or other islands close Spetses. In particular I want to visit Monemvassia. How often, if at all , do boats run and how long would it take?

Boats from Spetses

There are a great many boats running from Piraeus to Poros, Hydra, and Spetses, as described on the Travel and Transport page of this web site.  There are also frequent and cheap boats going over to the mainland, mostly to Kosta, but I think there are some boats going to the larger port farther up at Porto Heli.  I assume once you get to one of those mainland ports there will be transportation to Monemvassia available.  Guidebooks might help with this, or you could inquire locally. In the past some boats serving Spetses went on to Leonidio/Plaka  on the Pelopponese coast, and some even beyond that to Monemvassia, but I believe this service has been suspended for some years.

Hi Travelling Aussie,  we want to do exactly the same at the end of August.  Have you had any luck finding out if there is a boat/ferry doing that route? Sorry I am of no help.

Hi to both Aussies, As far as I can see, the only way is to arrange a cab from Monemvasia to Costa, and pick up the ferry/caiqui from there to Spetses. We took a cab from Napflio to Costa a couple of years back and it cost around 50 quid (UK) then. good luck, and hope it works out, as we're doing same trip in September. Chris

Hello Lee, Thanks for showing some interest. No luck with this posted query and a friend who knows the island and wants to go with us has tried her accommodation hosts for September with little success. However she suggests we wait until we get there and if all else fails we can get a boat to the mainland and take the bus! Enjoy your holiday and hope you get to Monemvasia.
