Family History Research
I am hoping that someone may be able to advise on how to go about doing family history research in Spetses I have family that was from Spetses and I am trying to locate any and all information on them. I am trying to trace our lines to see if we have any living family in Greece as well as learn more about our past. I am unsure how to proceed as I have only a few names and a few dates. I only speak and write English does this mean I will not be able to proceed? My Great Grandfather was supposed to be from Spetsae/Spetses. Also my Grand-Uncle. Their names were Dimitrios Prohonas- states he was born in the city of Spetsae in the providence of Spetsae October 14 or 26, 1884. He left Greece and arrived in New York Ellis Island August 16, 1912. His father's name was Theodore- he was also from Spetsae/Spetses. Also looking for George Prohonas, Katina, Julia. I have seen the names Kirikoula, Sevastia and Evalgelo...not sure what they mean in English if anything. I am wondering if anyone can help in any way to help me find my family. Also are their any books or information that can be purchased that talk about the local area and it's history? Thank you very much!!!!

I would like to find out more about my family from Spetses. My Grandfather, George Christopher Stamos was born December 25, 1891 in Spetses, son of Christodoulou Stamos and Chrisafis Kallas. I have a copy of his Greek Navy Discharge papers which list him as Georgios Stamou of Spetses. He had a brother and two sisters. I know one sister married a Mr. Bakiras and had a son Demetrios who had a daughter Anna. They were living in Athens in the 1960s. I have not been able to contact them. I would like to find out more about Spetses and the Stamos family there. Does anyone know how I would go about this? I would need a researcher who speaks English so we could communicate. I hope to visit Spetses sometime. I was able to visit Greece 10 years ago, but never made it to the island. Thank you. Cindy firstname.lastname@example.org

My Grandfather, George Christopher Stamos was born on Spetses on December 25, 1891. I believe his parents were Christodou Stamos and Crissola Kallas. I know he had a brother and two sisters. One of the sisters married a Mr. Bakiras and had a son Demetrios who had a daughter, Anna. I would love to find them and learn more about my family there in Greece. I tried contacting the Mayor's office, but they could not help me. I have been able to get copies of his Naval records. Can someone point me in the right direction for help? Thank you very much, Cindy email: email@example.com I can not read Greek.

I did the same thing a few years back. First place to try is the mayor's office. They told me there had been a fire that destroyed some of the years I was looking for. You may have better luck.
