Out and about on Spetses can mean different things to different people. For some it may mean finding the nearest café and people watching all day or for others it might mean getting up at 5am and cycling round the island twice! Despite it being such a small island, there are numerous place to go, even if it means a different beach or a new taverna.
There are 7 main settlement/residential areas: 'Dapia', with its port and cafés and the surrounding town area; Palio Limani - the old harbour to the the east of the town; Kounoupitsa a residential area to the west of the town; Ayia Marina where many homes and holiday homes are located, near beach and first stop as you go in an easterly direction around the island; Ligonerie a lovely beach with 'the villas' on the hill; Kastelli, an area where the earliest remains of a 16th century settlement is located, on a rocky plateau, behind the town; Anargyri a beach settlement on the south side of the island.
There are plenty of walking routes all over the island and these can be enjoyed at all times of the year. In the hottest months of June, July and August, it is advisable to start very early in the morning, before the sun gets too hot, or late in the evening when it is cooler.
